Cross Country
For girls and boys (Kindergarten to 8th grade) interested in running Cross-Country in the fall, the St. Jane de Chantal CYO will again be participating in the Archdiocesan CYO Cross-Country program.
Because we LOVE running and want to share our love of the sport with your children, we welcome all skill levels from the new to the seasoned runner and have a place for every child to reach their fitness and competitive goals while representing their school and having fun.
The first two practices will be "try-it" practices for new runners to come out and sample the sport as well as provide an opportunity for our seasoned runners to get together and catch up in a relaxed environment.
To be ready for the fall, starting in August older runners should aim to run at least a mile twice a week.
Runners should wear lightweight or dry-fit clothing.
Proper running shoes are a must. The following are good running stores that will fit young runners with proper running shoes: RnJ Sports, Potomac River Running, Pacers, Road Runner Sports, and Charm City Running.
Please bring water or a sport drink to EVERY practice and meet!
Divisions are split up and officially determined by age, not by grade. Age eligibility for cross country is determined as of August 31st of each year. Registration for Cross Country is open from July to September.
Costs/Fees:
All runners ($90)
Runners will be in one of six divisions:
U8 Boys and U8 Girls - 1 Mile Distance
U11 Boys and U11 Girls - 2 Mile Distance
U14 Boys and U14 Girls - 2 Mile Distance
There are six meets in the season beginning the first Sunday after Labor day and ending with a Championship meet towards the end of October. Meets begin at 12:30pm and are held at a number of local venues.
(The championship meet should not interfere with soccer playoffs.)

WE NEED COACHES! For this fun and rewarding experience, enjoying running (rather than speed) is the number one qualification. Responsibilities include corralling, motivating, keeping track of runners, running at the back of the pack, helping with first aid, and sharing the excitement of the sport.
Good CYO coaches are welcoming, enjoy children, and exude patience and a smile. Volunteer and join us!
